On October 28, with the invitation of Professor Zhou, Dr. Shi Jue from Hong Kong Baptist University visited our school and gave a lecture titled "exploring herbal medicine for the academic report of new Immunomodulating anticancer therapy". Cancer, as the killer of human beings, has been the hot research topic of the academia. Dr. Shi Jue was mainly engaged in the research of anticancer, but differently, she chose a traditional Chinese medicine called Alocasia cucullata distributed in the Guangdong province, and had some very interesting findings.
First of all, she introduced some of the challenges of immunotherapy in cancer research. Then she mainly talked about how she divided the extracts of Alocasia cucullata into three parts, and further focus on the anticancer activity study of low and high molecular weight compounds. She suggested that the active components of Chinese herbal medicine should be more than one, although the effect of each component is not the same, but the ultimate goal of the medicine is curing the disease. This research idea greatly simplifies the problem of the complex components and multiple targets of Chinese herbal medicine.
Dr. Shi Jue’s academic report is very interesting, and her flexible and clever research ideas greatly inspired our students. Finally, Dr. Shi Jue stressed the importance of traditional Chinese medicine especially folk Chinese herbal medicines commonly used in some areas, and put forward some problems to be solved in the development of Chinese medicine research.
