On April 30, 2015 in the afternoon 14:00,with Prof. Wu Yun-Dong’s invitation,Prof. Jiang, from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave us a great academic report in E104.
Prof. Jiang has received a series of scientific prizes including the Second Class Prize of National Natural Science Award of China. The title of Prof. Jiang’s report is ‘Thermodynamics and kinetics of ligand-receptor binding’. Firstly, Prof. Jiang introduced the thermodynamics model in drug designing using two examples, one is calculating the voltage sensitivity of ion channels, and the other is a statistical thermodynamics model for ion channel activation by the small molecules. Then he concretely introduced their research on kinetics of ligand-receptor binding. They focused on free energy landscape to predict drug efficacy and enable kinetics based drug design. Additionally, the kinetics model was applied to binding of several ligands and their targets.
After the report, Prof. Jiang discussed with us actively to let us know the application of thermodynamics and kinetics of ligand-receptor binding more deeply.
