From March 28 to 29, 2026, the2026 Greater Bay Area Biopharmaceutical Industry Development Seminarand the4th Xunzhen Cell and Gene Industry Development Forumwere grandly convened in Shenzhen. Focused uponthe themeBuilding Dreams in the Bay Area, Pursuing Truth and Scientific Knowledge,the two-day event was guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Biopharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry Office. It was co-hosted by the Shenzhen Biopharmaceutical Promotion Association and the Cell and Gene Industry Alliance, with co-organization support from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Southern University of Science and Technology, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Shenzhen Branch.

This seminar served as a premier industry summit, gathering elite cross-sector stakeholdersfrom government, industry, academia, research institutions, financial sectors, and healthcare across theGuangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The event focused on exploring cutting-edge trends, mapping out translational pathways, and working collaboratively to foster a thriving healthcare ecosystem.

The 4th Xunzhen Cell and Gene Industry Development Forum (March 29)
Dedicated to the frontier sector of cell and gene therapy (CGT), this forum brought together top-tier domestic and international experts, leading enterprises, clinical institutions, and research academies. Delegates engaged in deep-dive discussions on technological innovation, clinical translation, regulatory compliance, and industrial ecosystem construction, injecting robust momentum into the high-quality advancement of the GBA's biopharmaceutical sector.

Professor Zigang Li, Executive Dean of the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and President of the Shenzhen Biological MedicinePromotion Association, delivered the openingspeechin his dual roles as the General Chair of the Seminar and the Executive Chair of the Forum.In his opening remarks on the first day, Professor Li noted that 2026 marks the inaugural year of China's "15th Five-Year Plan," with biopharmaceuticals now explicitly designated as a national emerging pillar industry. As policy dividends continue to be released, the sector is entering a phase of major strategic opportunities. He emphasized that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is accelerating its transformation into a global powerhouse for biopharmaceutical innovation, fueled by its unique geographical advantages and strengths in industrial development, scientific research, and talent acquisition.Professor Lihighlightedthat the seminar aimed to build an efficient, pragmatic platform for exchange and cooperation to drive the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application. This collective effort will help the GBA build a world-class biopharmaceutical industry cluster. He concluded by wishing the conference a resounding success.
In his opening remarks on the forumonthe second day, Professor Liemphasizedthat the event was designed to establish a high-end exchange platform integrating industry, academia, research, and medicine. The ultimate goal is to guide the cell and gene therapy (CGT) industry toward a path of standardized, high-quality, and sustainable development. Heinspiredall stakeholders to deepen collaboration, build synergy, and work hand in hand to propel the GBA's cell and gene industry steadily forward to new heights.
During the keynote session of the Greater Bay Area Seminar on Biopharmaceutical Industry Development on March 28, Assistant Professor Jinjun Gao from the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School was invited to deliver a keynote presentation titledBiomedical Research Driven by Innovative Proteomic Methods.
As a co-organizer of the conference, the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZ) actively participated in the organizational planning, contributing significantly to the event's smooth execution. The successful conclusion of this seminar has further expanded the school's communication channels with the industry, clinical institutions, and peer universities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, opening up new horizons for the translation and commercialization of the school's scientific research achievements.
Looking ahead, the school will continue to deepen its collaborative partnerships with the Greater Bay Area’s biopharmaceutical industry. Leveraging the platform advantages of PKU SZ, the school will take proactive initiatives in talent cultivation, scientific research, andtechnology transfer, contributing the full strength of PKU Shenzhen todrive the innovation, iterative updates, and high-quality development of the biopharmaceutical sector in the Greater Bay Area.
