In the gentle spring weather, all things flourish; on the vibrant soil of the Bay Area, distinguished experts gather. From 28 to 29 March 2026, the 2026 Biomedical Industry Development Bay Area Seminar (28 March) and the 4th Xunzhen Cell and Gene Industry Development Forum (29 March) were grandly held in Shenzhen under the theme “Building Dreams in the Bay Area, Pursuing Truth through Inquiry”. The conference was guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry Office, co hosted by the Shenzhen Biomedical Industry Promotion Association and the Cell and Gene Industry Alliance, and co organised by Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Southern University of Science and Technology, and the Shenzhen Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
The 2026 Biomedical Industry Development Bay Area Seminar, themed “Building Dreams in the Bay Area, Pursuing Truth through Inquiry”, was a major industry gathering that brought together elite representatives from government, industry, academia, research, finance, and healthcare across the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Its aim was to discuss cutting edge trends, explore pathways for translation, and jointly build a healthy ecosystem.
The 4th Xunzhen Cell and Gene Industry Development Forum is a premier industry event focused on the frontier sector of cell and gene therapy (CGT). It gathered top experts, leading enterprises, clinical institutions, and research institutes from home and abroad to explore technological innovation, clinical translation, regulatory compliance, and industrial ecosystem development, injecting strong momentum into the high quality development of the biomedical industry in the Greater Bay Area.

The 4th Xunzhen Cell and Gene Industry Development
Professor Li Zigang, Executive Dean of the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and President of the Shenzhen Biomedical Industry Promotion Association, delivered opening remarks in his capacities as Conference Chair of the Seminar and Executive Chair of the Forum, respectively. In his opening address on the first day of the Seminar, he noted that 2026 marks the inaugural year of the “15th Five Year Plan”, during which biomedicine has been clearly designated as a national emerging pillar industry. With continued favourable policies, the sector is facing major strategic opportunities. Leveraging its advantages in location, industry, research, and talent, the Greater Bay Area is accelerating its development into a global hub for biomedical innovation. This Seminar aims to build an efficient and practical platform for exchange and cooperation, promote deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application, and support the Greater Bay Area in building a world class biomedical industrial cluster. He wished the conference a complete success.
In his opening address for the Forum on the following day, he emphasized that this Forum is intended to serve as a high end exchange platform for deep collaboration among industry, academia, research, and healthcare, guiding the cell and gene industry towards standardised, high quality, and sustainable development. He inspired all parties to deepen cooperation and pool efforts to jointly advance the steady progress and further achievements of the cell and gene industry in the Greater Bay Area.
During the plenary session of the Biomedical Industry Development Bay Area Seminar on 28 March, Assistant Professor Gao Jinjun from the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School was invited to deliver a keynote presentation titled “Innovative Proteomics Approaches Driving Biomedical Research”.
As a co organiser of the conference, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School actively participated in the planning and organisation, making significant contributions to the successful convening of the event. The successful hosting of this Seminar further expanded our School’s exchange channels with the industrial sector, medical institutions, and partner universities in the Greater Bay Area, providing new opportunities for the translation and commercialisation of our research outcomes.
Looking forward, the school will continue to deepen its synergistic collaboration with the biomedical industry in the Greater Bay Area. Relying on the platform strengths of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, it will take proactive steps in talent development, scientific research, and the commercialization of research outcomes, contributing more of PKU Shenzhen’s strength to the innovation-driven upgrading and high-quality development of the biomedical industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
